A stainless steel threaded fitting is seen in small-bore piping size of NPS 2 or smaller. These fittings are tapered with threads that allow them to connect them with subsequent threads of different equipment. They are one of the oldest methods of joining pipes in the system. The fittings possess superior corrosion resistance properties and are recommended in low pressure and temperature setups. Threaded fittings are seen in less critical applications. They can be produced in NPT, BSPP, BSPT, PF, PT, and MPT threads.

• NPT screwed fittings are generally seen in the U.S and Canada. BSP threads are primarily seen in the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, and other countries.
• NPT threads have pointed peaks and valleys, while BSP threads are rounded.
• BSP thread angle is at 55 degrees and the NPT thread angle is at 60 degrees.

The British standard pipe threads BSP and BSPT can be threaded interchangeably. In these fittings, the male BSPT tapered fitting will seal onto the BSP grade efficiently.

The NPT and BSP pipe threads are not compatible and cannot be used interchangeably. This is due to the fact that NPT threads have a pointed peak with a thread angle of 60 degrees, while BSP threads are rounded, and the thread angle is at 55 degrees.
